NWSL: Lavelle, Morgan out with injuries

The NWSL is losing two star players for a significant time with injuries.

The Orlando Pride will be without Alex Morgan for 3-4 weeks, while the Boston Breakers will miss Rose Lavelle for 4-6 weeks.

Morgan was injured in the UCL Women’s Champion’s League on June 1. She is dealing with a hamstring injury. Morgan made the move to Olympique Lyonnais before the beginning of the 2016 NWSL season on loan.

Morgan is back in Orlando, but rehabbing her injury. The news had her withdraw from the United States Women’s National Team matches against Sweden and Norway last week.

The 27-year-old joins Ashlyn Harris, goalkeeper, on the Pride’s injury list. When she returns, she will feature up top, alongside fellow forward Marta.

Also missing out with a significant injury is Lavelle, a rookie who has been a midfield powerhouse for the Boston Breakers.

Lavelle is suffering from a left hamstring injury in the USWNT’s match against Norway. Just days before the Norway match, Lavelle scored the USWNT’s lone goal against Sweden.

Lavelle was the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NWSL College Draft, and has featured for the Breakers in 712 minutes. She holds two goals and eight assists in eight appearances for the Breakers.

In addition, Lavelle was named to both the NWSL’s April and May Teams of the Month.
